Newly Appointed Bangladeshi Ministers Pay Tribute to Zia and Khaleda
Four newly appointed government ministers and state ministers visited the graves in Dhaka on Saturday. They paid floral tributes and recited Surah Fatiha to honor the late leaders.
On Saturday, 22 August 2026, at approximately 3:00 PM in Dhaka, Bangladesh, newly appointed government officials participated in a solemn commemorative event. Four newly appointed ministers and state ministers visited the resting places to honor the nation's historical figures, specifically paying floral tributes and reciting Surah Fatiha at the graves of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Among the high-ranking officials present at the solemn occasion was Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, who serves as the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and is also a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) national standing committee. He was joined by M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism who also holds the position of BNP treasurer, alongside State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir and State Minister for Religious Affairs Shamim Haider Lincoln.
Addressing the context of the current administration, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan spoke about the political landscape and the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He remarked that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken the helm of the country through the votes of the people during a very difficult period in the nation's history.
Expanding on the historical struggles for democratic governance in Bangladesh, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan noted that although the democratic journey of the country has been repeatedly disrupted, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has continuously made efforts to restore it. These reflections underscored the significance of the visit by the newly appointed cabinet members.
Furthermore, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan highlighted the pivotal political roles played by past leaders during national crises. He recalled that during the times of crisis in the 1980s, Begum Khaleda Zia emerged as an uncompromising leader on the streets and subsequently became the country's first female prime minister in 1991.
