National Dialogue on TVET Held in Dhaka to Promote Technical Education

A high-level national dialogue titled 'A National Dialogue on TVET for a Skilled and Productive Bangladesh' was successfully held on August 23 at the Daffodil Plaza auditorium located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The prominent event brought together key figures, experts, and officials to discuss the critical role of technical and vocational education in shaping the economic future of the country. Among the notable individuals present at the gathering were Tareq Rahman, Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, Md. Daud Mia, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, and Dr. Md. Tarikul Islam Chowdhury. The discussions heavily centered on reforming the current educational landscape to better meet the demands of both the domestic and international job markets.

Addressing the gathering, the Education Minister emphasized the profound importance of technical education in driving the nation's socio-economic development. The minister stated that the country must move away from the traditional, conventional concept of education alone. To build a prosperous and advanced Bangladesh, the minister asserted that technical education has no viable alternative. The minister further elaborated that Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has formulated a comprehensive plan to convert the nation's massive population into a productive human resource, noting that the government is steadily moving forward with this specific vision by giving top priority to technical and vocational education.

Elaborating on the international demand for skilled labor, Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon highlighted that skilled individuals in technical fields enjoy widespread demand all across the global job market. Pointing out that expatriate workers serve as one of the primary sources of foreign currency earnings for Bangladesh, Dr. Milon stressed that sending these workers abroad with proper technical training will enrich the national economy even further, reinforcing why technical education must be given significantly greater emphasis moving forward.

To support these ambitious educational and economic goals, Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon announced concrete plans for institutional expansion across the country. It was officially confirmed that four additional engineering colleges will be established in Bangladesh to broaden access to higher technical learning. Furthermore, the government has actively initiated efforts to transform the Dhaka Polytechnic Institute into a premier model institution, with a separate specialized project currently being undertaken to facilitate this comprehensive upgrade.

The event itself was organized in collaboration with several key organizations, including Daffodil Plaza, the Technical and Madrasah Education Division, the Daffodil Group, CCN Polytechnic Institute, and the Dhaka Polytechnic Institute. Throughout the dialogue, representatives from these various institutions engaged in productive discussions regarding the implementation of modern TVET frameworks. By uniting stakeholders from academia and government bodies, the dialogue at Daffodil Plaza marked a significant step forward in aligning Bangladesh's educational outputs with national productivity goals and global employment standards.
