Forty Undocumented Bangladeshis Deported From Three European Nations
Forty Bangladeshi nationals who lacked valid travel documents have been deported from Cyprus, Greece, and Bulgaria. They arrived on a chartered flight at Dhaka's international airport on Thursday morning.
A total of forty Bangladeshi nationals who lacked valid travel documents have been deported from three European countries, according to verified reports released on Thursday. The deportees arrived in the capital on Thursday morning aboard a special chartered flight that landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
According to the confirmed breakdown of the returnees, the largest group consisting of twenty-four individuals was sent back from Cyprus. Additionally, fifteen nationals were deported from Greece, while a single individual was returned from Bulgaria, bringing the total number of arrivals to forty.
The chartered flight carrying the undocumented migrants touched down at the airport at approximately quarter to eight in the morning. Following their arrival, the deportees underwent necessary administrative procedures at the facility before officially leaving the airport premises at around half past ten in the morning.
Shariful Hasan, representing the BRAC Migration Program, provided insights into the circumstances surrounding the deportations. Initial discussions with the returnees revealed that they did not possess the necessary legal paperwork required to remain in Europe, which ultimately led to their expulsion from the respective countries.
To assist the newly arrived individuals, the authorities and supporting organizations provided immediate relief upon their arrival at the airport. Every single person who was sent back received twenty-nine thousand taka in financial assistance, alongside provision of food and logistical support to help them contact their family members.
Looking ahead at long-term measures for the deportees, Shariful Hasan stated that the forty individuals who returned from Europe will receive comprehensive backing. This support structure for their long-term rehabilitation will include professional counseling, targeted training programs, and further financial assistance.
This latest repatriation takes place against the backdrop of existing bilateral frameworks between Bangladesh and European authorities. Notably, Bangladesh previously signed a Standard Operating Procedure with the European Union back in the year 2017 to manage such migration and return processes.
