Attorney General's Office Holds Ethics Training for Law Officers
Bangladesh's Attorney General's Office has hosted its first-ever higher ethics training program for law officers in collaboration with the United Nations and UNDP. A total of 160 deputy and assistant attorney generals participated in the workshop, which emphasized integrity, professional responsibility, and zero tolerance for corruption.
Law officers serving at the Bangladesh Attorney General's Office have participated in a higher-level ethics training program for the very first time. The professional development initiative, officially titled 'Strengthening the Principles and Practices of Prosecutorial Ethics for the Attorney General's Office of Bangladesh,' was organized to enhance the ethical standards and daily operational practices of the legal team.
The comprehensive workshop saw the active participation of 160 legal officials, specifically comprising deputy and assistant attorney generals from the Attorney General's Office. This significant gathering was made possible through the direct assistance and collaborative efforts of the United Nations (UN) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), alongside contributions from UNODC and other affiliated institutional representatives.
During the proceedings, several distinguished individuals were present to facilitate and guide the discussions, including Barrister Md. Ruhul Kuddus Kajol, Steven Rodrigues, Christian Holge, Romana Schweiger, Shah Mohammad Nahian, and Barrister Anik R. Haque. Their collective presence underscored the importance of international standards and institutional accountability within the national legal framework.
Addressing the participants during the sessions, Barrister Md. Ruhul Kuddus Kajol emphasized that providing the utmost cooperation to the court in order to ensure fair justice remains one of their primary and most fundamental responsibilities. Building upon this perspective, Steven Rodrigues highlighted the broader human dimensions of the legal profession, noting that justice is not merely a matter of laws, courts, procedures, or sentencing, but is directly intertwined with human lives and dignity.
Furthermore, Rodrigues stressed the continuous nature of professional virtue by stating that integrity is never a part-time matter, and its reflection must be visible in every single day and through every individual decision made by the officers. Aligning with these core values, the Attorney General's Office formally reiterated and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to maintaining a strict zero-tolerance policy against all forms of corruption and unethical activities.
