Flash Floods Inundate Over 100 Homes in Khagrachari Following Heavy Rain
Flash floods triggered by torrential rain and mountain runoff have submerged more than 100 homes in Khagrachari. Local authorities and the army have responded with inspections and cooked food distribution.
Torrential rainfall combined with sudden mountain runoff has caused severe flooding in multiple areas of the Khagrachari district town. The natural disaster resulted in the inundation of residential properties belonging to more than one hundred families residing within the affected neighborhoods.
According to the verified timeline of events, the flash floods struck during the night on Tuesday, taking residents by surprise. The overflowing water quickly spread across several localities, heavily impacting daily life and leaving numerous homes submerged under water.
The worst-hit areas within the district town include Islampur, the gate area adjacent to the cantonment, Khagrapur, and the APBn area. In each of these locations, floodwaters entered residential dwellings, forcing families to confront significant property damage and disruption.
In response to the emergency situation, municipal authorities mobilized to assess the scale of the disaster on the ground. Sadia Afrin Kochi, the administrator of the Khagrachari Municipality, personally visited the flooded neighborhoods to inspect the damaged roads and affected residential zones.
Meanwhile, humanitarian assistance was promptly provided to the victims by the military. The Khagrachari Sadar Zone of the army stepped forward to distribute cooked meals directly to the families whose homes and livelihoods were inundated by the floodwaters.
