DNCC Launches Tree Plantation Campaign in Uttara
The Dhaka North City Corporation has initiated a major tree plantation campaign aiming to plant 500,000 trees over the next five years. The project also engages hundreds of educational institutions to ensure long-term care for the newly planted saplings.
A new tree plantation campaign was officially inaugurated on Saturday in the Uttara area of the capital city of Dhaka. The initiative marks a significant step forward in the region's environmental efforts, drawing participation from various local stakeholders and municipal authorities.
During the inauguration event, it was highlighted that the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has undertaken a comprehensive plan to plant a total of 500,000 trees across its jurisdiction over the next five years. Municipal officials and representatives, including Md. Ziaur Rahman, Syed Zahorul Alam, and Mohammad Abul Kashem, are associated with the broader administrative framework alongside organizations such as Akij Food and Beverage Limited.
As part of the ongoing environmental drive, municipal authorities confirmed that an impressive 55,000 trees have already been successfully planted to date. This current progress contributes directly toward the larger municipal target set for the capital over the upcoming half-decade.
In addition to the physical planting of saplings, the initiative incorporates a dedicated community care framework. Under this specific program layout, approximately 1,500 students drawn from 500 different educational institutions will be directly engaged in the ongoing maintenance and caretaking duties for the planted trees.
The broader national context of urban and nationwide greening efforts was also highlighted during the discussions. Notably, the Prime Minister has previously announced a sweeping national goal to plant a total of 250 million trees across the entire country over a span of five years, aligning local municipal efforts with national environmental objectives.
