Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman Pledges Online Pension Disbursal for MPO Teachers
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated the digital disbursement of retirement and welfare benefits for retired MPO-listed teachers and employees. The initiative aims to eliminate bureaucratic harassment and ensure funds reach recipients across all 64 districts online.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made a firm pledge on August 15, 2026, stating that retired teachers and employees of non-government MPO-listed educational institutions will now receive their retirement and welfare benefits online without facing any harassment. The high-profile inauguration ceremony took place at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium located in Dhaka, marking a significant shift in how educational welfare funds are managed and distributed across the country.
During the official event, benefits were formally disbursed using modern financial infrastructure, specifically through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) and the Integrated Budget and Accounting System (iBAS++). This digital rollout successfully reaches beneficiaries located across all 64 districts of the nation, ensuring that geographic isolation is no longer a barrier to receiving rightful state-backed financial support.
To clear a massive backlog of payments that had accumulated over the past four years, the government has allocated a substantial one-time fund amounting to Tk 2,035.86 crore. This targeted financial injection is designed to settle outstanding claims and bring more than 1.23 lakh retired teachers and employees directly under the comprehensive umbrella of this newly streamlined welfare programme.
Emphasizing the dignity of educators, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman delivered a powerful statement during the proceedings at the Dhaka auditorium. "Teachers who teach millions of students about ethics, morality and ideals should not have to pay bribes or visit office after office to withdraw their own money. Your rightful money will reach your accounts on time, online and without any hassle," the Prime Minister declared.
The administration of these critical funds is managed by dedicated organizations, specifically the Non-Government Educational Institutions Teachers and Employees Welfare Trust and the Retirement Benefit Board. By integrating these boards with the automated iBAS++ and EFT systems, the government seeks to permanently eradicate the historical delays and corrupt practices that previously plagued retired educators attempting to access their pensions.
