Sadarpur School Left Halved Four Months After Storm Damage
A primary school in Sadarpur remains partially crippled four months after a severe storm brought down a massive tree onto its structure. Administrative delays and bureaucratic hurdles have stalled the removal of the timber, leaving classrooms closed.
Academic activities at a government primary school in Sadarpur have remained severely disrupted for four months following a destructive storm that struck the region earlier this year. The natural disaster caused a massive tree to crash directly onto the institution's semi-permanent building, rendering one of its primary teaching spaces completely unusable for students and teachers alike.
The incident took place on May 13, when a fierce Kalbaishakhi storm swept through the area, bringing down a large Chambal tree onto the roof and structure of the Satrashashi Government Primary School. The impact of the falling timber inflicted significant structural damage to the semi-paved facility, forcing the immediate suspension of all educational activities inside the affected classroom.
Despite four full months having elapsed since the destructive weather event occurred, the massive tree remains wedged over the school building, with no decisive action yet taken to clear the wreckage. The prolonged delay has sparked serious concerns among local residents and guardians regarding the safety of the students and the continued disruption to the academic calendar.
School authorities have explained that the delay in clearing the obstruction stems from the official status of the fallen timber. Because the tree is classified as government property, the local school administration is legally barred from cutting, moving, or disposing of it without obtaining prior formal permission from the relevant authorities.
Addressing the ongoing situation, Sadarpur Upazila Primary Education Officer Mamunur Rashid stated that official steps were initiated immediately following the disaster. He confirmed that the Upazila primary education office formally wrote to the Forest Department to request the necessary authorization and assistance for the safe removal of the tree.
However, despite the communication sent to the Forest Department, the bureaucratic process has dragged on for months without resolution. As local officials and forestry authorities continue to navigate the required administrative protocols, the students of Satrashashi Government Primary School continue to bear the brunt of the prolonged classroom closure.
