Woman arrested under Anti-Terrorism Act in Ishwarganj over August 15 post

Law enforcement authorities in Ishwarganj have arrested a local woman named Rifat Jahan under the country's Anti-Terrorism Act following an investigation into a social media publication. The arrest took place in the Ishwarganj municipal town area as police moved to take legal action in connection with the controversial online post.
According to the confirmed details of the incident, the sequence of events began when Rifat Jahan organized a food distribution event inside her own residence. The gathering was held to observe the 51st martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a significant national commemoration that falls on August 15.
Following the private residence gathering, photographs and details of the event were published on the popular social media platform Facebook. The online publication quickly drew the attention of local authorities, setting the stage for subsequent police intervention in the municipality.
The specific content shared online included a notable statement attributed directly to Rifat Jahan. In her published remarks, she expressed deep reverence for the late leader and made a direct plea regarding the nation's political leadership, stating: "Ora bhebechilo, tomake hatya korlei hoye jabe sob shesh, ora bujhte pareni, Bangabandhu manei Bangladesh. Ajker ei ayojon tomar jonno (Bangabandhu) Allahpak apnake ar apnar poribarke jeno behest nosib koren amin. Ebong amader majhe tomar konnya Jonnetree Sheikh Hasinake firiye din. Acting on the developments, personnel from the Ishwarganj police station moved swiftly on Sunday evening. Rifat Jahan was detained from the Kalibari Road area, which is situated within the municipal town of Ishwarganj near the Charhosenpur Shimultoli locality.
Following her detention on Sunday evening, local authorities formalized the legal proceedings against her. On Monday, corresponding to the 17th of August, Rifat Jahan was formally shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and subsequently sent before the court by the police.
