Unexploded Cocktail-Like Objects Found on Dhaka's Elephant Road

On 17 August, unexploded cocktail-like objects were discovered lying on a road in the Elephant Road area of New Market, Dhaka. The unusual discovery immediately drew the attention of local residents who noticed the suspicious items resting on the pavement and roadway.

According to the verified accounts provided by law enforcement, locals spotted the objects wrapped in red Scotch tape lying directly on the Elephant Road thoroughfare. Alarmed by the potential threat, local residents promptly contacted the police to report the presence of the unidentified devices.

Following the initial report, law enforcement authorities and a specialized bomb disposal unit from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit were dispatched directly to the scene to secure the area and handle the potential explosives.

The incident was officially confirmed by Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Ramna Zone under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Providing details of the response, the Deputy Commissioner stated that local residents informed the police upon seeing the objects wrapped in red Scotch tape, after which the CTTC's bomb disposal unit was notified and subsequently collected the items for examination.

Addressing the exact nature of the recovered items, Sheikh Zahidul Islam noted that authorities cannot yet definitively classify the devices. He stated that it will only become clear whether the items are actual cocktails or merely cocktail-like objects after thorough testing and analysis are completed.

As the investigation into the matter continues, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police are actively looking into the circumstances surrounding the appearance of the objects on Elephant Road to determine who placed them there and what their underlying purpose might have been.
