Bangladesh Government Prepares Housewives LPG Card Initiative
The administration in Dhaka is preparing to launch a new Housewives LPG Card initiative alongside the publication of an e-book detailing its initial term. State energy corporation Petrobangla has also outlined extensive targets for gas well drilling and workovers.
DHAKA, BANGLADESH — The government in Dhaka is currently making comprehensive preparations to introduce a new welfare initiative known as the 'Housewives LPG Card'. This upcoming program is designed to support households, though specific eligibility criteria and rollout dates remain part of the broader administrative planning currently underway in the capital.
Alongside the preparations for the LPG card scheme, authorities have officially released a new e-book titled 'The People's Government's 180 Days'. Published by the Prime Press Wing, the digital publication outlines the activities, milestones, and governance strides achieved by the administration during its initial six months in office following the transition of power.
In the energy sector, state-owned Petrobangla has detailed ambitious operational targets to boost domestic fuel production and exploration. According to the state energy corporation's strategic roadmap, the authorities have set a firm target to excavate and complete workovers on 50 gas wells during the 2025-26 fiscal term to address growing national energy demands.
Building upon the initial phase, Petrobangla's planning extends further into the medium-term horizon. The corporation has scheduled an additional 100 wells for drilling and workovers spanning the 2026-28 term, demonstrating a sustained commitment to expanding the country's domestic hydrocarbon extraction infrastructure and alleviating supply bottlenecks.
Current operational updates indicate that a total of 50 wells are actively undergoing various stages of exploration, development, and renovation across different fields. Within this ongoing activity, special priority has been assigned to the comprehensive technical overhaul and repair of 31 aging wells to restore their optimal production capacities.
Furthermore, to attract foreign investment and accelerate offshore resource extraction, international tender bids have been officially invited for all 26 blocks located in the Bay of Bengal. This maritime licensing round forms a critical component of the government's broader strategy to enhance national energy security through diversified exploration partnerships.
