Newly sworn-in President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid solemn homage at the National Martyrs' Memorial located in Savar on Saturday morning. The official visit to the historic memorial marks one of his first major public engagements following his assumption of the highest office of the state.

The presidential election took place on Thursday inside the national parliament, drawing participation from the legislative body. During the parliamentary vote, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir secured a decisive victory by garnering 255 votes from the available members. His sole contender in the parliamentary race, Oli Ahmed, secured a total of 88 votes in the contest.

Following the conclusion of the parliamentary election, the formal oath-taking ceremony was conducted to transition the executive responsibilities to the newly elected head of state. The oath of office for the presidency was administered to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir by the acting speaker of the national parliament, Kaiser Kamal.

Continuing the official itinerary on Saturday, the newly sworn-in president arrived at the solemn grounds in Savar. According to the official timeline of the events, the president paid his respects at the National Martyrs' Memorial at precisely 10:22 am.
