Local Government Polls Will Be Held Within Current Fiscal Year: Minister

State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam has announced that local government elections will be held within the current fiscal year. The announcement provides a definitive timeline for the upcoming polls, signaling a push by the administration to organize the local electoral process as scheduled.

Addressing the structure of the upcoming polls, the State Minister emphasized that there will be no party influence in the local government elections. He explicitly stated that candidates will not be nominated or fielded on a partisan basis, ensuring a non-partisan approach to the local contests.

However, Mr. Alam noted that despite the absence of official party backing, support will remain directed toward dedicated and qualified individuals. This clarification outlines how political alignments may manifest informally while maintaining the official policy of non-partisan local elections.

To facilitate the electoral process, the government is fully prepared to release the necessary funds for organizing the local government elections. According to the State Minister, the financial arrangements will be made strictly in accordance with the plans and requirements set forth by the Election Commission.

The statements were made on Saturday afternoon, August 29, in Dhaka. On the same day, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam visited Shere-Bangla Nagar in Zia Udyan to pay homage by placing wreaths at the mausoleums of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, accompanied by leaders and activists from the Bogura Shibganj Upazila BNP.
