Irene Zubaida Khan assumes office as Bangladesh's UN permanent representative

Irene Zubaida Khan has formally assumed her responsibilities as the new permanent representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, marking a significant diplomatic transition in New York. Her appointment brings a distinguished career in international advocacy and human rights to the forefront of Bangladesh's diplomatic mission at the global organization.

As part of her official assumption of duties, Irene Zubaida Khan traveled to the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States. There, she formally presented her credentials to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, completing the necessary diplomatic protocols required to step into her new role.

In taking up this vital position, Irene Zubaida Khan succeeds Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, who previously held the post of Bangladesh's permanent representative to the United Nations. Her arrival at the UN mission in New York marks a continuation of Bangladesh's representation and diplomatic engagement within the international body.

Prior to her current assignment as Bangladesh's permanent representative to the United Nations, Irene Zubaida Khan has built an extensive background in international public service. Notably, she has served as the UN special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, a responsibility she took on starting from August 1, 2020.
