The High Court in Dhaka has scheduled August 31 for the delivery of its judgment in the high-profile child rape and murder case that occurred in Magura. This legal proceeding concerns the death reference, appeal, and jail appeal involving the primary accused, Hitu Sheikh. The adjournment was announced following proceedings before the designated judicial bench.

The bench responsible for setting the new date comprises Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice K.M. Rashaduzzaman Raja. The two judges formally decided to fix the upcoming Monday, August 31, as the new timeline for issuing the final verdict after reviewing the case documents and current courtroom developments.

State counsel Hafizur Rahman Khan explained the reason behind the postponement to reporters following the court session. According to Khan, the judgment could not be delivered today because the Attorney General was not present in court and is expected to appear and present statements regarding the matter. Consequently, the court found it appropriate to postpone the verdict until Monday, August 31.

The legal history of this case traces back to previous rulings delivered by lower courts in Bangladesh. On May 17 of last year, the Magura Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal issued its original verdict in the case, sentencing the accused Hitu Sheikh to death while acquitting the three other individuals who had been accused.

The tragic sequence of events began prior to the judicial trials, culminating in the death of the young victim while under medical care. On March 13 of last year, the child passed away while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, setting off the extensive criminal investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings.
