Hasnat Abdullah Expresses Regret Over Brahmanbaria Remarks in Parliament

National Citizen Party (NCP) leader and Member of Parliament for the Comilla-4 constituency, Hasnat Abdullah, has taken to Facebook to officially express his regret regarding statements he previously made in parliament concerning the Brahmanbaria district. The controversy arose following parliamentary discussions focused on the local law and order situation, as well as cultural events and general governance within the region.

Addressing the statements made by the Home Minister, Hasnat Abdullah argued that the minister had claimed that music and cinema are nearly prohibited in Brahmanbaria. According to the NCP leader, the Home Minister's remarks effectively shifted the accountability for his own ministry's failures directly onto the residents of Brahmanbaria. Furthermore, Abdullah stated that these comments were placed upon the local Islamic scholars, known as alems, thereby tarnishing their reputation and image before the global community.

In addition to addressing the Home Minister's comments, Hasnat Abdullah also clarified a separate factual error he had made concerning a boat-racing event, commonly known as a noukabajich. The parliamentarian admitted that he had made a mistake regarding the location of the event, mistakenly naming Brahmanbaria instead of Sylhet during his parliamentary address.

The legislator acknowledged that this specific factual error had generated unintended misunderstandings among the public and local stakeholders. Consequently, Abdullah stated that he felt deeply embarrassed by the resulting confusion and offered a formal expression of regret for the entirely unexpected situation that transpired following his remarks.
