Hasnat Abdullah Questions Law and Order Situation in Parliament

National Citizen Party (NCP) Member of Parliament Hasnat Abdullah has questioned the state of law and order in the country during the first day of the third session of the Thirteenth National Parliament held on Thursday. Speaking in parliament, the lawmaker raised critical concerns regarding the government's ability to maintain public safety and uphold the rule of law. Alongside national security figures, the discussions in parliament also touched upon specific local incidents, including the banning of concerts and boat races in Brahmanbaria.

During his address, Hasnat Abdullah presented a comparative breakdown of crime statistics between the previous six months before the government assumed office and the first six months of the current administration. According to the data highlighted by the MP, a total of 1,780 homicides occurred in the country during the six months prior to the government taking office. In comparison, the number of homicides rose to 1,789 during the first six months of the current administration.

The parliamentary presentation further detailed significant spikes in other categories of crime, particularly regarding violence against women and children. Statistics show that incidents involving women and children stood at 1,909 during the previous six-month period. However, during the first six months of the present administration, that figure experienced a dramatic increase, surging up to 11,655 reported cases.

Law enforcement personnel also faced heightened security risks according to the figures placed before parliament. The data revealed that 275 attacks on police officers took place in the preceding six months. In the first six months of the current government, this number climbed further, with police coming under attack in 317 separate incidents across the country.

The legislator also drew attention to the alarming rise of fatal mob violence. While 166 individuals were killed in mass beatings throughout the entire year of 2025, the first six months of the current government alone have already recorded 120 deaths resulting from mob lynching.

Concluding his remarks in parliament, Hasnat Abdullah directed a direct query to the administration through the speaker. He stated, “I want to know through the speaker, how successful has the Home Minister been in restoring the law and order situation to a normal state in the first six months of the government? Has he been able to play an adequate role in establishing the rule of law in the country, or has his role ultimately culminated in failure?”
