Gono Odhikar Parishad Rally Attacked in Kushtia

A violent attack took place during a peaceful protest rally organized by the Gono Odhikar Parishad in Kushtia on August 15, 2026. According to verified reports from the location, the gathering was disrupted when attackers descended upon the participants. The incident has drawn widespread attention following official statements regarding the severe nature of the violence that unfolded during the political program.

State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur took to Facebook to allege and condemn the incident. Expressing strong disapproval of the violence, Nur stated on social media, "The tendon-cutter Jamaat-Shibir has returned to its true form!" He further elaborated on the nature of the assault, declaring that Jamaat-Shibir terrorists launched a brutal attack on the peaceful protest rally of Gono Odhikar Parishad using lethal weapons including ramda, hockey sticks, knives, and chapatis.

The physical confrontation and subsequent injuries affected numerous individuals participating in the political event. Nurul Haque Nur confirmed that the violent onslaught resulted in severe injuries to approximately fifty leaders and activists associated with the organization. Among the primary casualties identified from the location were Abdul Khaleq, the general secretary of the Kushtia district branch of Gono Odhikar Parishad, and Sohan Ahmed, the president of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad at Kushtia Government College.

In the wake of the incident, Nur strongly condemned the actions of the perpetrators and issued a stern warning. He stated that he strongly condemns and protests this terrorist attack by Jamaat-Shibir. Furthermore, Nur added a direct warning to the organization, stating that he wants to remind Jamaat-Shibir that just as they remained in hiding for the past decade and a half, any further overreach will result in arrangements for them to remain hidden for life.

The event has sparked significant concern regarding political confrontations and security measures during public demonstrations in the area. Authorities and organization leaders continue to monitor the aftermath of the violence as the injured members, including senior figures Abdul Khaleq and Sohan Ahmed, recover from the physical trauma inflicted during the August 15 rally.
