Former ministers and officials produced at International Crimes Tribunal

Ten former ministers, members of parliament, and officials belonging to the Awami League government have been produced at the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka in connection with a case involving crimes against humanity. The proceedings at the tribunal relate to the violence and killings that occurred during the July mass uprising, marking a significant development in the ongoing judicial process regarding the events of that period.

The group of ten individuals brought before the tribunal includes prominent political figures and officials from the administration. Among those produced are Golam Dastagir Gazi, Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzaque, Shajahan Khan, Dr. Dipu Moni, Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Faruk Khan, AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Jahangir Alam, Solaiman Selim, and Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury. Additional prominent figures associated with the wider context of the proceedings include Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader.

The appearance at the tribunal took place on August 27. The accused individuals were transported from various correctional facilities to the tribunal premises in Dhaka aboard prison vans under heavy security arrangements to ensure order and safety during the high-profile court proceedings.

This particular hearing at the International Crimes Tribunal was scheduled specifically for the submission of the investigation report concerning the case. The investigation encompasses allegations of crimes against humanity and orchestrating widespread killings during the July uprising, which has led to intense legal scrutiny involving a total of 46 individuals overall.
