Law enforcement authorities in Kishoreganj have detained five individuals, including a former leader of the now-proscribed political organization Awami League. The operation was carried out by members of the Sadar Model Police Station.

According to the verified official details, the detentions occurred on Friday night. The police apprehended the group specifically from the Yashodal area, located within the jurisdiction of Kishoreganj Sadar upazila.

Among the five people taken into custody is Anwar Kamal, who previously served as the publication and propaganda secretary for the Kishoreganj district branch of the Awami League. Details regarding the identities of the other four individuals detained alongside him have not been released beyond the total count.

Following their apprehension, law enforcement officials are currently in the process of filing formal charges against the five detainees. The impending legal action will invoke provisions under the country's anti-terrorism legislation.

This is not the first time Anwar Kamal has faced police action amid political unrest in the region. Previously, he was arrested on November 21, 2024, in connection with a case filed over an attack on an anti-discrimination procession before subsequently securing his release on bail.
