Five Injured in Noakhali Shooting En Route to Pre-Wedding Event

Five individuals have sustained injuries following a shooting incident carried out by miscreants in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila. The victims, who have been identified as supporters of Jamaat and event management workers, were targeted while travelling to a pre-wedding turmeric ceremony on Monday.

The violent attack took place in the Gazitola area, located within Alaiyapur union of Begumganj upazila in Noakhali. According to the available details, the group of individuals was commuting to the festive celebration using a transport arrangement consisting of three motorcycles and two CNG-operated autorickshaws.

The five victims injured in the sudden gunfire have been identified as Nazrul Islam alias Shanto, Md Bablu, Maruf Ahmed, Jasim Uddin, and Sakib Hossain. Following the shooting, the wounded individuals were rushed to medical facilities for urgent treatment, with one victim being transferred to the capital for advanced care.

Md Bablu was subsequently admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for specialised medical attention. Meanwhile, the remaining four injured victims—Nazrul Islam, Maruf Ahmed, Jasim Uddin, and Sakib Hossain—were admitted to the Noakhali General Hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.

Detailing the harrowing experience from the attack, victim Nazrul Islam stated that an assailant named Picchi Riyad confronted him during the incident. According to Nazrul, Riyad accused him of supporting Jamaat-Shibir, pressed a weapon against his leg, and threatened him with another round of gunfire.

Local accounts regarding the unfolding of the violence were also shared by Md Shamsuzzaman, who mentioned hearing that the armed individuals targeted the motorcycle riders from behind. Authorities from the Begumganj Model Police Station, alongside figures linked to local political entities such as the BNP and Jamaat, remain connected to the unfolding context of the locality where the incident transpired.
