A special court in Noakhali has delivered a landmark verdict in a heavily discussed triple murder case dating back to 2016, sentencing three individuals to death. The judgment was pronounced today, Sunday, by Judge Md. Shawkat Ali at the Noakhali Special Judge (District and Sessions Judge) Court located in Maijdi town. The case centers on the tragic killings of three friends—Fazle Huda, Md. Wasim, and Md. Yasin—who were lured and shot dead following a localized dispute.
According to the confirmed judicial details, the violent episode originated in 2016 over a seemingly minor altercation regarding a dog being bathed in a pond. This initial friction escalated dramatically in Maijdi town, culminating in the three friends being specifically summoned and subsequently shot to death. The brutality of the incident sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting an extensive police investigation by the Detective Branch (DB) of the district police and subsequent legal proceedings.
Following the deadly attack on March 21, 2016, at noon, a formal case was registered at Begumganj Police Station naming eight specific individuals alongside several unidentified suspects. Investigators thoroughly probed the conspiracy and execution of the crime, eventually leading the District Intelligence Police to submit a formal charge sheet to the court on May 31, 2017, implicating the responsible parties in the execution-style murders.
In today's ruling, Judge Md. Shawkat Ali convicted the primary culprits under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The court sentenced three specific defendants—Omar Nasir Saju, 32, Omar Sharif Sultan, 25, and Md. Sourav, 27—to death, alongside imposing a financial penalty of 100,000 taka each. These severe sentences reflect the gravity of the premeditated violence that claimed the lives of the three young men in Noakhali.
Additionally, the special court handed down rigorous life imprisonment sentences to three other defendants: Firoz Mahmud, 27, Kudrat Ullah, 65, and Harunur Rashid, 45. Alongside their life terms, each of these three men was ordered to pay a fine of 50,000 taka, with an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment stipulated in default of payment. Meanwhile, the remaining two individuals among the accused were acquitted by the court after the charges against them were not proven beyond doubt.
