DSCC Administrator Orders Eviction of Illegal Parking in Badamtali
The Dhaka South City Corporation administrator has ordered the immediate eviction of illegal parking and shops in the Badamtali area. Meanwhile, all car parking activities under the Babubazar Bridge have been suspended following reports of extortion.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Freedom Fighter Md. Abdus Salam has issued strict directives to take immediate action for the eviction of illegal parking and unauthorized shops situated adjacent to the busy Badamtali market area. The directive comes as part of ongoing efforts by the city corporation to restore order, improve traffic conditions, and ease public suffering in the bustling commercial hub located in the capital.
Addressing the pressing traffic and congestion issues in the locality, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md. Anisur Rahman formally sought the necessary assistance and intervention from the DSCC. Acknowledging the prompt response from the municipal authorities, Md. Anisur Rahman stated, “Receiving such a swift and effective decision from a government office is truly inspiring. Thanks to this farsighted decision by the DSCC administrator, we will be able to conduct eviction drives rapidly, and it will be possible to resolve the long-standing traffic congestion in the Badamtali area.“
The administrative intervention follows reports highlighting extortion activities being carried out by individuals falsely using the name of the city corporation around the Babubazar Bridge area. In response to these irregularities and public concerns, authorities have taken decisive steps to halt unauthorized commercial exploitation of municipal spaces and infrastructure within the local jurisdiction.
As part of these corrective measures, all operational car parking activities covering blocks 'A' through 'D'—spanning a total area of 28,051.12 square feet—at the newly constructed car parking facility located beneath the Babubazar Bridge in Ward No. 32 have been officially suspended until further notice.
Emphasizing the core responsibilities of the municipal body during these developments, DSCC Administrator Md. Abdus Salam clearly stated the corporation's zero-tolerance policy regarding public inconvenience. He remarked, “City corporations exist to serve the people. Therefore, the city corporation itself will not do anything that causes suffering to citizens or tarnishes its image, nor will it allow anyone else to do so.“
