State Minister Inspects Dhaka Road Repair Work

State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Habibur Rashid Habib visited the capital on Tuesday, August 25, to personally inspect ongoing road repair and development activities. The inspection covered the crucial route stretching from the Basabo Bishwa Road area all the way to the Nandipara Bridge in Dhaka, drawing the attention of local authorities and municipal bodies.

During the field visit, the State Minister evaluated the physical dimensions and structural layout of the thoroughfare. According to the verified details of the project, the total width of the road, including the designated pedestrian walkways on both sides, spans approximately 30 feet. Within this total measurement, each of the two sides allocates roughly five to six feet exclusively for footpaths, leaving a dedicated space of about 20 feet for the primary main roadway.

The inspection also shed light on complex underground utility challenges that have impacted the engineering approach and excavation depth. Officials noted that the presence of multiple underground utility lines belonging to the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, commonly known as Wasa, as well as several lines managed by the Dhaka Power Distribution Company, or DPDC, restricts the construction crew from digging below a specific predetermined depth.

Regarding the project's timeline and contractor accountability, it was revealed that the designated timeframe for the assigned contractor has already expired. In response, the contractor has formally applied for an extension until January while providing assurances that the route will be fully reopened to vehicular traffic by the month of December.

Addressing the officials and workers at the site, State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib issued clear directives regarding the standards of execution. He stated, "My point is that the quality of the work must be good, and the work must be finished properly within the exact time given for it. It must be ensured that the work is not ruined again after two days due to rushing through it."

The infrastructure initiative involves close coordination among multiple key government and municipal organizations in the capital. Alongside the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, the Dhaka South City Corporation, Wasa, and DPDC are all involved as the relevant stakeholder entities overseeing the urban development and utility management of the area.
