Dhaka University Students Demand DUCSU Election Schedule and Voter List Update
Students at Dhaka University have submitted a formal memorandum to the administration demanding the announcement of the DUCSU election schedule. The petition also calls for an immediate update to the student voter list.
A group of students at Dhaka University gathered to submit a formal memorandum to the university's administration, pressing for administrative action regarding student representation. The documents were handed directly to Professor Dr. Al Mujaddيدي Alfesanee, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Dhaka University, during the proceedings.
The memorandum submitted by the students outlines a specific set of demands centered on the revival of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU). Specifically, the student body has raised two primary demands, urging the university authorities to officially announce the much-anticipated DUCSU election schedule without further delay.
In addition to demanding the election timeline, the submitted memorandum strongly emphasizes the necessity of updating the official voter list. The students argued that a transparent and contemporary voter database is essential to ensure a fair and inclusive electoral process for the general student body.
During the demonstration and submission process, the participating students chanted slogans to reinforce their position regarding student rights and governance. Among the chants raised by the gathered students was the declaration, "ডাকসু শিক্ষার্থীদের অধিকার, নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে হবে প্রতিবার," emphasizing that holding elections on time is a fundamental right of the students.
The delegation presenting the memorandum included several notable student representatives and individuals, namely Suhail Mahdeen, Mariyam Binte Abdus Salam, Azmain Adib, Mamunur Rashid Tuhin, and Rokonuzzaman. The administration received the two-point demand document on Sunday, September 13, at Dhaka University, setting the stage for future discussions on student elections.
