Dhaka CNG Station Crisis Leaves Drivers Stranded With Low Gas Supply
Drivers face severe suffering at a Sheorapara CNG station due to a drastic drop in gas pressure. Long queues and meager supplies leave workers struggling to earn a living.
A severe crisis regarding low gas supply at a CNG filling station in the capital has left numerous auto-rickshaw drivers facing immense hardship and distress. The situation unfolded on 17 September 2026 at a designated CNG station located in the Sheorapara area under the Kafrul Police Station jurisdiction of Dhaka.
According to verified reports from the scene, drivers arriving at the station have been forced to endure lengthy waiting periods only to receive restricted amounts of fuel. The root cause of the predicament is a persistent low pressure of gas at the pumps, which prevents vehicles from taking in their required quantities.
Individual accounts from the drivers highlight the severe financial and physical toll exacted by the crisis. Sanaullah, a local driver, recounted that he had to wait for an hour and a half just to receive gas worth only 29 taka. Expressing his frustration and despair, Sanaullah stated, "Brother, I am not feeling very well physically. I thought I would be able to take at least 380 taka worth of gas. Then I could have driven the vehicle until night, paid the owner's daily deposit, and bought groceries for my family on the way home. Now that will not happen. I have to take this to the garage and go home empty-handed."
Another driver, Rafiqul Islam, similarly suffered through the prolonged shortages at the station. Rafiqul managed to secure gas worth 53 taka, but only after waiting at the pumps for a quarter past an hour, or one hour and fifteen minutes.
Monirul Islam, a third driver interviewed at the scene, waited for three-quarters of an hour before obtaining just 81 taka worth of gas. Highlighting the broader systemic issue, Monirul remarked, "Brother, I am thinking about how to survive in Dhaka city with my family. After waiting for three-quarters of an hour, I got 81 taka worth of gas." He added further regarding the widespread nature of the problem, "Now, due to the lack of pressure in most gas pumps, we are not able to take gas according to our demand."
The combination of dwindling supplies, low pump pressures, and hours of waiting has severely disrupted the daily livelihoods of these transport workers in Dhaka, casting uncertainty over their ability to support their households.
