Clash Erupts Between Chhatra Dal and Shibir at Islamic University

An escalating confrontation between the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir has sparked severe tension on the campus of Islamic University in Kushtia. The disturbance originated inside the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall on September 5, 2025, where a series of escalating altercations quickly drew in supporters from both political student organizations.

According to the accounts provided by the individuals involved, the initial dispute began when Shibir leader কাজী জুহায়ের entered the hall. Kazi Zuhayer stated that he was moving slowly using crutches due to a ligament injury when Chhatra Dal activist আলীনূর রহমান suddenly approached and struck him without any prior conflict. In his defense, Alinur Rahman admitted to slapping Zuhayer, claiming the confrontation started after words were exchanged in the hallway.

The initial physical altercation rapidly generated widespread unrest, leading to pushing, vandalism, and aggressive counter-positions taken by activists from both organizations. In response to the growing chaos, university authorities and the proctorial body rushed to the scene alongside police forces to restore order. During the intervention, officials worked to rescue the accused student from the hall, an effort during which a vehicle's glass was vandalized amidst the mounting hostility.

Following the events inside the residential hall, leaders from both student bodies offered contrasting views on the breakdown of peace. Masudur Rumi Mithun of Chhatra Dal stated that after attempting to resolve the matter with university proctors and Shibir leaders, Shibir instead created a tense environment and shoved their member secretary outside the hall. Mithun asserted that Shibir is attempting to take over university halls nationwide and urged them to show restraint and keep the campus safe. On the other hand, Rashedul Islam Rafi acknowledged that the initial incident stemmed from Chhatra Dal activist Alinur, but claimed that Chhatra Dal subsequently gathered with domestic weapons and locals at the main gate to attack local Jamaat workers.

As the situation outside intensified, Chhatra Dal and BNP activists escalated their protest by blocking the Kushtia-Khulna highway near the university's main gate. Meanwhile, university officials including Shahীনুজ্জামান reported that they immediately rushed to the scene to calm both factions. With the assistance of the police, authorities successfully escorted the accused student to the proctor office safely, where discussions are currently underway to find a peaceful resolution to the campus crisis.
