Bangladesh continues to grapple with an ongoing dengue outbreak as health authorities reported a significant number of new hospitalizations across the country. According to the latest data released by the Directorate General of Health Services, exactly 342 new patients were admitted to hospitals suffering from dengue over the preceding 24-hour period. This continuous influx of patients highlights the persistent public health challenge posed by the mosquito-borne disease throughout the nation.

The comprehensive report, issued by the Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room on August 28, 2026, details the cumulative impact of the virus so far this year. Since the beginning of the year, the total number of individuals who have been hospitalized due to dengue infections has climbed to 32,590. Despite the high volume of cumulative cases, medical facilities have managed to discharge a substantial number of recovering patients.

Official statistics indicate that a total of 30,422 patients have successfully recovered from the illness and received clearance to leave hospitals after receiving necessary medical treatment. However, the sheer volume of ongoing cases means that hospitals continue to manage a considerable patient load. Currently, the total number of patients undergoing active treatment for dengue in healthcare facilities across Bangladesh stands at 2,080.

On a positive note, the Directorate General of Health Services confirmed that no new deaths were recorded due to dengue during the most recent 24-hour reporting window. This provides a brief respite for a healthcare system that has already recorded multiple fatalities since January. Nevertheless, the total death toll resulting from the disease since the beginning of the year remains at a concerning 88 fatalities.

A demographic breakdown of the 88 individuals who have lost their lives to the virus this year reveals a distinct pattern in fatalities. The data shows that among the total deceased individuals, 51 are women while 36 are men, illustrating a disproportionate impact on female patients during the current outbreak. Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely as treatment efforts persist nationwide.
