Rampal Power Plant Maintains Output Amid Transition to Local Engineers

The Rampal Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant, located in Bagerhat, Bangladesh, has continued its electricity generation and operational activities through the month of August 2024. According to the official data released for the period between August 1 and August 25, the facility successfully produced approximately 643.6 million (64 কোটি ৩৬ লাখ) units of electricity. This follows a higher production period in June, during which the plant generated about 827.3 million (৮২ কোটি ৭৩ লাখ) units of electricity to meet the demands of the national power grid.

Designed with a total generation capacity of 1,320 megawatts, the power facility has operated at varying averages depending on grid requirements. During the August 1 to August 25 timeframe, the plant averaged an output of 1,073 megawatts. This compares to the month of June, when the facility registered a higher average generation of 1,149 megawatts. Officials note that power distribution is continually adjusted in alignment with the specific demands communicated by Power Grid Bangladesh (PGCB).

A notable operational milestone for the thermal power station is the successful transition of plant management to local personnel. Anwarul Azim stated that the power plant is currently operated entirely by Bangladeshi engineers. He noted that the Indian engineers who previously managed the facility provided excellent training to the newly appointed local engineers. Having acquired the necessary skills to independently run the installation, the local team now manages the core power plant operations, while the remaining Indian engineers serve in advisory capacities.

Addressing environmental and international standards, Khan Noman Shibli emphasized the plant's compliance with global protocols. He stated that the power plant has received international recognition and operates strictly according to international standards. He further confirmed that electricity generation continues without causing any harm to the surrounding environment and remains steady in direct response to the demands of the power grid.

Looking ahead at operational continuity, Ramanath Pujari confirmed that both units of the Rampal thermal power plant are fully operational. Since April, the facility has consistently supplied electricity matching demand based on its production capacity while keeping the environment intact. Furthermore, officials confirmed that sufficient coal reserves are securely stocked at the facility to sustain continuous operations through the coming month of October.
