Bangladesh Presidential Election Begins at National Parliament

Voting for the high-stakes presidential election officially began on Thursday at the National Parliament in Dhaka. The polling process for the presidential race commenced sharply at 2:00 PM, drawing significant attention from the country's political circles and citizens alike.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman participated in the electoral process by casting his vote at the parliament building. Notably, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the official presidential nominee put forward by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The electoral contest features two primary candidates vying for the presidential office. The nominees confirmed to be participating in this ongoing election are BNP-nominated candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram, representing the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
A total of 349 registered voters are eligible to participate in this parliamentary election process. The electorate comprises political figures and representatives from various organizations, including the BNP, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, the 11-party alliance, and the LDP.
Several prominent political figures and leaders have been linked to the broader political landscape surrounding the election context. These include Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Syed Abdullah Mohammad Tahere, A M M Nasir Uddin, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, and Dipu Moni, reflecting the wide array of stakeholders engaged in the current national proceedings.
