Bangladesh observed the 50th death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam with commemorative events held across different regions of the country on August 29, 2026. The solemn observance marked half a century since the passing of the iconic literary figure, whose profound contributions to literature, music, and society continue to resonate deeply with the people of Bangladesh.

In the capital city of Dhaka, a special discussion titled 'Nazrul Smarane' was organized at the BDOSN office located in Dhanmondi. The event was jointly hosted by cultural and literary organizations Mukta Asr and Ami Hi Nazrul, drawing numerous participants, organizers, and enthusiasts to pay tribute to the enduring legacy of the national poet.

During the proceedings at the Dhaka gathering, speaker Abu Saeyed addressed the audience to reflect upon the vast and multifaceted career of the celebrated figure. He noted that beyond being a poet, artist, lyricist, composer, and novelist, Kazi Nazrul Islam was also actively involved as a politician, marking the centenary of his political endeavors this year.

Abu Saeyed further emphasized that in order to actively spread the profound consciousness and ideals of Nazrul among the broader public, the organization 'Ami Hi Nazrul' consistently undertakes various initiatives throughout the entire year.

Simultaneously, commemorative programs observing the death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam were also held outside the capital. In Rangpur district, the Prajanma Samaj-Sanskriti Kendra organized a dedicated remembrance event in Annadanagar of Pirganj upazila.

The events in both Dhaka and Rangpur served to honor the historical significance of the national poet's life and work on his 50th death anniversary, bringing together multiple collaborating organizations such as Biddosn, Swapna 71 Prokashan, Kathbirali Prokashan, and Boicharita alongside Mukta Asr, Ami Hi Nazrul, and Prajanma Samaj-Sanskriti Kendra.
