Bangladesh Moves to Cut File Disposal Delays in Ministries

The government of Bangladesh has taken a significant initiative to reduce delays in the disposal of letters and official documents across various ministries and divisions. According to official information released in Dhaka, this measure is designed to address bureaucratic slowness and enhance administrative efficiency within the government machinery.

As part of this new initiative, multiple three-member monitoring teams will be formed. These specialized teams will consist of additional secretaries who will conduct surprise inspections to evaluate the current status of file processing and document handling in different government offices.

Following the completion of these surprise inspections, the designated monitoring teams are required to submit formal reports. These reports must be delivered either on the very same day of the inspection or by the next working day directly to the Cabinet Division.

To formalize this administrative procedure, the Cabinet Division officially issued a letter concerning the matter to the secretaries of all ministries and departments on August 24, 2026. This directive outlines the framework for the surprise visits and the strict reporting timelines that the monitoring teams must follow.

This administrative push comes against the backdrop of a broader national objective, as the government works toward a specific economic milestone. Notably, Bangladesh has an ambitious target in place to elevate its economy to one trillion dollars by the year 2034, making bureaucratic efficiency a crucial component of future national development.
