Bangladesh Local Youth Leader Hacked to Death in Narayanganj
A 45-year-old Islamic movement leader was hacked to death in Narayanganj, sparking highway blockades by activists and locals. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing.
A local leader of the Islamic youth movement was brutally hacked to death on Thursday night in the Bandar area of Narayanganj, Bangladesh. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Mujahidul Islam Bulbul, was attacked around 10 PM in the Saleh Nagar area. He was the son of the late Raja Master and a resident of the Shahi Mosque Thakurpara area.
According to verified reports, Mujahidul Islam Bulbul was previously a plaintiff in a legal case concerning attacks that occurred during the July-August student movement. Police have confirmed that one person, identified as Sheikh Sifat, has been arrested in connection with the murder. Notably, Sheikh Sifat was also an accused individual in the aforementioned July-August movement attack case.
The violent death of the 45-year-old youth leader quickly triggered widespread outrage and unrest within the local community. Activists belonging to Islami Andolan Bangladesh, alongside enraged local residents, took to the streets to demand justice. The demonstrators proceeded to stage protests and blockade the vital Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
The sudden blockade caused significant disruption to traffic along the major transportation artery. According to available details regarding the demonstration, the highway blockade lasted for a duration ranging from approximately half an hour to one full hour before normal transit activities could resume.
Local law enforcement agencies, including personnel from both the Bandar Police Station and the Kanchpur Highway Police Station, have been dealing with the aftermath of the killing and subsequent protests. Investigations into the murder of Mujahidul Islam Bulbul are currently ongoing as authorities work to determine the full scope of the incident and ensure all responsible parties are brought to justice.
