Clash Erupts at Dhaka University After Female Students Face Harassment

Tensions flared at Dhaka University on the night of Wednesday, August 19, following an incident involving the alleged harassment of three female students from the university's Faculty of Fine Arts. The distressing incident took place near the TSC and Raju Sculpture area, drawing immediate concern and widespread attention from the student community on campus.

In the wake of the incident, leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Student Union organized themselves to take a stand against the misconduct. The organization mobilized a protest procession on the campus at approximately 11 PM, demanding immediate justice and accountability for the victims who had been targeted near the Raju Sculpture area earlier that evening.

However, the demonstration quickly escalated into a violent confrontation involving a clash and subsequent attack. Shimul Kundkar, one of the individuals involved, described the chaos during the altercation, stating, "When I tried to stop them, they also started beating and punching me. Then some people from the Chhatradol procession joined in. As a result, three or four of our people got beaten."

Following the escalation, university authorities were notified of the unfolding situation on the campus. Israfil Ratan commented on the administrative response to the developments, stating, "I have heard about this incident. They called our proctorial team after the incident. Our team went there. At that time, none of the attackers were found. We are now looking into what can be done about this."

Seeking formal recourse, the affected female students took decisive action by submitting a written complaint to the Dhaka University Proctor at around 12:30 AM. Through their submission, the victims formally demanded a thorough investigation into the harassment they faced near the TSC area, as well as strict legal action against those responsible for the ordeal.
