In the wake of a violent assault on a prominent medical professional, Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has issued a direct warning to law enforcement agencies regarding their failure to curb criminal activity. The incident occurred in Dhaka, drawing immediate attention from the highest levels of government to the safety and security of medical personnel working within the country's healthcare institutions.
The target of the attack was Professor Dr. Md. Asadur Rahman, who serves as the head of the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) department at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Dr. Rahman sustained injuries during the targeted assault, prompting widespread concern and highlighting the physical vulnerabilities faced by senior medical practitioners while carrying out their essential duties in the capital city.
Following the disturbing incident, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed personally visited the injured professor at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in Dhaka on 22 August 2026. The high-profile hospital visit underscored the gravity of the situation and the government's acute awareness of the deteriorating security conditions surrounding targeted professional staff within public medical facilities.
During his visit and subsequent briefings, the Home Minister addressed the responsibilities of security personnel and issued an uncompromising directive targeting criminal elements. Minister Ahmed ordered law enforcement agencies to bring extortionists, terrorists, and drug traffickers under the jurisdiction of the law without delay, emphasizing that decisive action must be taken against these criminal networks operating within the community.
