Ananda Mohan College student's certificates stolen and burned over ransom
Essential academic certificates and money were stolen from a student's hall room at Mymensingh's Ananda Mohan College. The culprits demanded a ransom and later sent a video of a certificate being burned when the money was not paid.
An alarming incident of theft, extortion, and the destruction of vital academic documents has shocked the academic community at Ananda Mohan College in Mymensingh. The victim, a student named Ahmed Junaid, fell victim to a burglary at the institution's Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall, where his room's wardrobe lock was broken and his belongings were targeted.
At the time of the incident, the student was not present in the residential hall as he was receiving medical treatment for dengue fever at the Nalitabari Upazila Health Complex. Bedridden and physically unable to move, Ahmed Junaid expressed his profound distress over the unfolding crisis, noting that he could not comprehend who would steal his valuable documents and demand extortion money while he was incapacitated.
Following the break-in at room 213 of the Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall, the perpetrators demanded a ransom of two lakh taka in exchange for the stolen files and academic certificates. When the demanded sum was not paid, the extortionists escalated their tactics by sending a chilling video directly to the student's brother, Ahmed Sadik, showing one of the vital certificates being burned.
In response to the criminal act, formal legal proceedings were initiated at the local law enforcement agency. On Monday, a general diary was officially registered at the Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station, formally documenting the theft, the extortion demand, and the destruction of the academic credentials.
Authorities have since taken notice of the gravity of the situation surrounding the targeted theft at Ananda Mohan College. Mizanur Rahman assured that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness, confirming that efforts are actively underway to identify the culprits through the review of closed-circuit television footage, alongside necessary legal and institutional steps.
