World Environment Day 2026 Concludes in Dhaka

The closing ceremony and prize-giving event of 'World Environment Day and Environment Fair 2026' was successfully held at the Department of Environment auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka, on September 2, 2026. This significant gathering marked the conclusion of the commemorative events, bringing together key government officials, environmental experts, and participants to celebrate and promote ecological awareness.

Abdul Awal Mintoo, Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Delivering his address at the auditorium, the minister emphasized the urgent need to address escalating environmental challenges, stating that effective measures must be taken immediately to counter the growing risks of climate change. He further noted that sustainable development can only be ensured by building an eco-friendly economy through the integration of environmental protection, social development, and economic progress.

The event also featured Dr. Fahmida Khanam, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, who attended as a special guest. In her remarks, Dr. Khanam highlighted that the impacts of climate change have now become a severe reality, adding that recent events in Nepal are no exception to this trend. She explained how rising global temperatures are causing glaciers to melt and resulting in catastrophic floods.

Presiding over the closing and prize-giving ceremony was Dr. Md. Lutfor Rahman, Director General of the Department of Environment. His leadership steered the proceedings as awards were distributed to recognize contributions made during the environment fair and associated activities.

The joint efforts of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Department of Environment underscored the national commitment to fostering ecological sustainability. Through these discussions and recognitions, the 2026 observance concluded by reinforcing the collective responsibility required to safeguard the nation's environmental future.
