WaterAid South Asia Regional Director Dr. Khairul Islam Dies at 67

Dr. Khairul Islam, who served as the Regional Director for South Asia at the international organization WaterAid, has passed away. His death marks a significant loss for public health and development sectors in the region, given his extensive leadership and longstanding dedication to improving water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions.

At the time of his passing, Dr. Islam was 67 years old. Throughout his lifetime, he contributed immensely to his field, eventually guiding WaterAid's strategic initiatives and operations across the South Asian region.

His death occurred early this morning in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He passed away at Continental Hospital, which was formerly known as United Hospital, located in the capital city.

Dr. Islam's academic and professional journey in medicine began at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, where he successfully earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, laying the vital medical foundation for his future humanitarian and public health career.

Family, friends, and colleagues will gather to pay their final respects tomorrow, Saturday. His funeral prayer, known as Janaza, is scheduled to take place after the Asar prayers at the Azad Mosque, situated in the Gulshan area of Dhaka.
