Visually Impaired Chattogram University Graduate Seeks Permanent Job

Mizan Mia, a 25-year-old visually impaired graduate hailing from Adampur village in Sadekpur union of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, is urgently seeking a permanent job to support his family. Born blind, Mizan has faced significant lifelong challenges, yet he has demonstrated remarkable academic persistence by advancing his education up to the university level. He is the son of Khorshed Mia and Habiba Begum, and comes from a large family consisting of seven brothers and sisters, highlighting the difficult socioeconomic conditions of his early life.

Demonstrating immense resilience, Mizan enrolled at Chattogram University under the 2019-20 academic session, choosing to study in the department of international relations. Through hard work and determination, he successfully completed both his undergraduate degree and his marriage in the year 2023. Continuing his academic pursuits at the same institution, he went on to complete his post-graduation studies in 2025, cementing his status as a dedicated scholar despite his visual impairment.

Following the completion of his education, Mizan Mia formally submitted an application on September 6 for the position of telephone operator at the engineering office of Chattogram University, addressing his plea directly to the vice-chancellor. At present, Mizan and his wife live in a shelter project house located in Ghotura Gautampara of Sadar upazila. Because he has not yet secured permanent employment, his financial situation remains exceptionally precarious.

Describing his current domestic reality, Mizan Mia explained that he is entirely dependent upon the income earned by his wife. According to his account, she works as a cleaner at a private hospital, and her earnings are the sole means by which their household manages to survive. However, he noted with deep concern that she is currently ill and will not be able to continue performing this job for much longer.

Emphasizing his urgent need for financial stability, Mizan stated that he requires a job very soon. He explicitly clarified that he is not looking for charity or pity, but is instead praying for employment based strictly on his personal merit and qualifications. Supporting his appeal, Alauddin Mohsin, a representative of the Chattogram University branch of Chhatra Dal, remarked that despite lacking eyesight, Mizan successfully pursued his education all the way up to the university level, and confirmed that they will definitely recommend him for the appointment.

Mizan's daily struggle also involves managing modest earnings from private tutoring, which previously brought in only eight thousand taka per salary before his graduation milestones. As he awaits a favorable decision from the university administration regarding his job application, the community and student bodies continue to acknowledge his academic journey from Brahmanbaria to the Chattogram University campus.
