Two women drown in pond at Jagannath University Keraniganj campus

Two women lost their lives after drowning while bathing in a pond located at Jagannath University's Keraniganj campus. Local police and residents helped recover the bodies following the incident.

Two women have tragically lost their lives after drowning while bathing in a pond at the campus of Jagannath University, situated in the Tegharia area of South Keraniganj in Dhaka. The fatal incident occurred at the university's second campus located in the Keraniganj region, drawing immediate attention from local authorities and the university administration.

According to Abul Kalam Azad, four women had entered the pond to bathe at approximately 3:00 PM. While two of them managed to swim back to the shore safely, the other two unfortunately failed to make it and went under the water, leading to the drowning tragedy.

The victims have been identified as 14-year-old Rabeya and 20-year-old Julia. Following the accident, the bodies of the two deceased individuals were successfully recovered with the combined assistance of the local police and area residents.

Addressing the legal procedures concerning the aftermath of the incident, Abul Kalam Azad confirmed that the legal processes regarding the bodies of the deceased are currently ongoing and actively underway.

In response to the tragic event, university official Md. Rois Uddin stated that upon learning about the incident, the university authorities promptly dispatched a delegation team to the location. This designated team actively assisted in the recovery of the bodies from the pond.

Furthermore, taking immediate preventive measures following the drowning incident, Md. Rois Uddin added that the university issued a formal notice restricting public access to the pond starting the very same day.
