Task Force Holds Third Meeting on 25 Million Tree-Planting Plan in Dhaka
The supportive task force for the National Tree Plantation Cell convened its third meeting at the Secretariat in Dhaka. Officials reviewed comprehensive plans to plant millions of saplings over the coming years.
On Monday, the third meeting of the supportive task force formed to implement the '250 million tree planting in 5 years' programme was held inside the ministry meeting room at the Secretariat in Dhaka. The high-level gathering brought together representatives from numerous key government bodies and administrative divisions to coordinate the massive nationwide environmental initiative.
Among the participating entities were the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Local Government Division, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Secondary and Higher Education Division, and the Technical and Madrasa Education Division. Officials from the Rural Development and Cooperative Division, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Defence also joined the discussions.
Further inter-ministerial and departmental coordination was ensured with the attendance of representatives from the NGO Affairs Bureau, the Road Transport and Highways Division, the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Railways, the Bridge Division, and the Forest Department. Shamima Begum was present during the proceedings, contributing to the administrative oversight of the ambitious environmental campaign.
A core focus of the session was the detailed planning for the upcoming year, with authorities confirming that a total of 51,488,930 saplings are scheduled to be planted in 2026. This extensive planting effort relies on multiple procurement and production streams to ensure an adequate supply of healthy vegetation across the designated areas of the country.
According to the operational breakdown for the initiative, approximately 38.2 million saplings will be produced independently to be utilized for planting. In addition, roughly 13.3 million saplings are planned to be procured using internal financial resources to support the extensive greening targets set by the national cell.
Furthermore, information provided by the NGO Affairs Bureau indicates that various non-governmental organizations have already contributed significantly to the overarching mission by planting 25 lakh saplings. The collaborative framework between state organs and NGOs continues to drive the implementation phases overseen by the national task force.
