Sylhet River Boat Race Dispute Settled with Cancel Condition

A community meeting was convened on Saturday evening after Esha prayers at Barigram Bazar to address and resolve growing tensions surrounding an upcoming boat racing competition. The sporting event, which has drawn significant local attention, is set to take place on the Sunai river in Bangladesh. The gathering brought together various community stakeholders to discuss the contentious issues and find a mutually agreeable path forward regarding the water-based festivities.

The competition is officially organized by the Bahadurpur Gangpar Youth Society and remains scheduled to be held on August 28. Speaking about the outcome of the discussions, Lauta Union Parishad Chairman Delwar Hossain explained that the organizers requested the opportunity to hold the boat race on schedule for this year. However, as part of the negotiated terms, the organizers agreed that they will no longer organize any boat races on the Sunai river starting from next year. Both opposing sides consented to this condition, allowing the dispute to be resolved peacefully.

Delwar Hossain further emphasized that the meeting placed significant importance on preventing any new conflicts or tensions from arising in relation to this year's event. Following extensive discussions and through mutual understanding, the parties successfully reached a compromise, which has brought a palpable sense of relief among the local residents living near the river area.

Addressing the public regarding the status of the event, Aminul Islam reassured the community that the boat racing competition will proceed precisely as planned. He urged citizens not to be confused by conflicting reports surrounding the schedule. According to Aminul Islam, the complications that initially arose around the boat race were successfully navigated through local cooperation and mutual dialogue, and preparations are now actively underway to hold the competition according to the pre-determined schedule.

Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have offered a slightly different perspective on the final terms of the agreement. Beanibazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Jafar Mohammad Mahfuzul Karim stated that he is aware that the matter has achieved a peaceful resolution overall. However, the police official noted that he was not personally aware of the specific condition stipulating that the boat race would not be organized in subsequent years when the August 28 competition moves forward.
