Suspect Escapes Handcuffs With 50 Yaba Pills in Sonargaon
A 30-year-old suspect escaped from police custody in Narayanganj while wearing handcuffs following a dramatic confrontation involving his family members and associates. Police later arrested the suspect's elder brother in connection with the incident.
A dramatic escape occurred in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district when an arrested suspect managed to flee from law enforcement custody while wearing handcuffs. The incident took place on the afternoon of August 20, 2026, within the jurisdiction of Jamalpur union, according to local authorities and reports from Dhaka Post.
The individual at the center of the incident has been identified as 30-year-old Md. Raju. According to official statements, Raju was initially apprehended by law enforcement officers during a targeted police operation in the area. Authorities confirmed that officers recovered 50 pieces of Yaba tablets in the possession of the suspect during the arrest.
Following the seizure of the narcotics and the initial apprehension, officers placed handcuffs on Md. Raju and began transporting him toward the Taltola investigation center. However, the transport operation faced immediate resistance from the local community as the situation escalated rapidly along the roadway.
According to HM Jasim Uddin, members of the suspect's family and his associates aggressively intervened, blocking the road and surrounding the police personnel. During the resulting physical scuffle between the officers and the hostile crowd, the detained suspect seized an opportunity to break away and fled the scene successfully while still wearing the police handcuffs.
In the wake of the escape, law enforcement agencies initiated follow-up operations to locate and apprehend the fugitive. As part of the ongoing investigation and response to the security breach, police successfully located and arrested the suspect's elder brother, identified as 42-year-old Akhtar.
