Special Women-Only Bus Service Launched in Chattogram

A special women-only bus service has officially been launched in the city of Chattogram, Bangladesh, with the primary objective of ensuring safe and comfortable transportation for female passengers. The new public transit initiative, which commenced operations with an initial fleet of two buses, was inaugurated on August 18, 2026, in the Kalurghat Betar Kendra area.

As part of this specialized service, all operational roles on the vehicles—including the drivers and assistants—are filled entirely by women. The route designated for these buses runs from the Kalurghat Betar Kendra area through the city's Free Port and extends all the way to Patenga. Along this specific route, female passengers are able to board and disembark at twelve designated stopping points.

The newly introduced fleet accommodates passengers across two distinct vehicles with varying capacities. Specifically, one of the vehicles is a double-decker bus equipped with seventy-five seats, while the other bus provides forty-five seats for commuters.

Ershad Ullah commented on the launch, stating that the service represents an electoral commitment made by the Prime Minister. Ullah noted that the Prime Minister is actively fulfilling that pledge, highlighting that all drivers and helpers on the buses are women, and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of Chattogram.

Ullah further expressed hope regarding the initiative, stating expectations that the government's intended purpose for the program will be successfully met. He emphasized that the arrangements must ensure women are able to travel comfortably and securely, adding that the government is effectively implementing its commitments.
