A local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Sirajganj has found himself at the center of controversy after a video surfaced showing him using political slogans traditionally associated with the rival Awami League party. The incident has prompted immediate formal action from the district leadership of the organization, highlighting strict internal party discipline regarding public messaging and ideological alignment.

According to verified reports from Sirajganj, Bangladesh, the disciplinary action was taken against Md. Mintu Sheikh, who serves as the president of the 11th Ward unit of the Sirajganj City BNP. The controversy erupted after Mr. Mintu Sheikh concluded a speech at a public human chain demonstration by chanting 'Joy Bangla, Joy বঙ্গবন্ধু'—slogans long utilized by the Awami League.

Shortly after the public demonstration concluded, digital footage of the incident spread rapidly across various social media platforms, drawing widespread attention and triggering internal review. In response to the circulating video, the Sirajganj District BNP intervened to address the public expression by one of their municipal unit leaders, determining that an official explanation was urgently required.

Consequently, the Sirajganj District BNP formally issued a written cause-notice to Md. Mintu Sheikh on August 27, 2026. The disciplinary directive officially mandates that the local ward president submit a comprehensive written explanation regarding his controversial remarks during the recorded human chain event.

The formal administrative notice specifically stipulates a strict timeline for the accused leader's compliance, demanding that he provide his written defense within a window of three days. The decisive measure was officially reviewed, endorsed, and authorized by top leadership figures within the regional party hierarchy, specifically District BNP President Rumana Mahmud and District BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu.
