Raiganj TTC Building Conflict Triggers Press Conference and Case Demand
A press conference in Sirajganj addressed a conflict over the construction site of a TTC building and demanded the withdrawal of a filed case. Local speakers and student leaders called for an end to unjustified harassment regarding the incident.
On Wednesday, August 19, a press conference was held at the SS Complex auditorium located within the Raiganj municipality in Sirajganj. The gathering was organized to address the ongoing conflict surrounding the selection of the construction site for the Technical Training Center (TTC) building, an issue that has recently drawn significant local attention and tension.
During the press conference, local social activist Md. Nazmus Sakib formally read out the written statement to the assembled journalists and attendees. The statement detailed the sequence of events and the grievances of those involved, providing the primary perspective of the organizers regarding the administrative and community disputes over the building site.
The controversy stems from an unexpected incident that occurred between local residents and the Member of Parliament regarding the specific location chosen for the TTC building. This altercation has escalated into legal action, with a formal case now having been filed against a total of fifteen individuals connected to the local student movement.
Among those specifically named in the legal proceedings are Shrabon Sarkar and Tomal Sarkar, both of whom previously served as upazila conveners for the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The case itself was filed by Khandaker Shamimul Hasan, who holds the position of former senior vice-president of the Chandaikona Union BNP.
Speakers at the event, including Foysal Biswas, addressed the implications of these legal filings on the broader community and the student activists involved. The ongoing tensions highlight the challenges facing local infrastructure projects when disputes arise over land selection and political representation in the area.
Addressing the legal developments, VP Aynul Haq stated regarding the situation, "This event should not cause any unnecessary harassment to innocent individuals, and clear instructions have already been given to the administration in this regard." The press conference concluded with a renewed demand for the immediate withdrawal of the filed case against the fifteen individuals.
