Sirajganj-3 MP vehicle attack: Prime suspect Tamal Sarkar placed on 2-day remand

A court in Sirajganj has placed Tamal Sarkar on a two-day police remand in connection with a case filed over the attack and vandalism of a vehicle belonging to Sirajganj-3 Member of Parliament Ainul Haque. The decision was handed down following a legal proceeding concerning the high-profile incident that has drawn significant local attention.

The violent episode took place on the evening of August 15 at the Dhangora Bazar area located within the Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district. According to case details, the vehicle carrying the Member of Parliament Ainul Haque was targeted by perpetrators, resulting in substantial damage and destruction to the automobile.

In the wake of the incident, a formal case was registered listing 15 named individuals alongside an estimated 30 to 40 unidentified suspects. The investigation into the attack on the lawmaker's vehicle has since progressed with law enforcement agencies detaining key suspects and seeking further judicial custody for questioning.

During the court proceedings, investigating officials pressed for an extended period of custody. Rফিকুল ইসলাম (রফিক আকন্দ) stated, "মামলার তদন্তের স্বার্থে প্রধান আসামিকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের জন্য পাঁচ দিনের রিমান্ড আবেদন করে পুলিশ। তবে আদালত দুই দিনের রিমান্ড মঞ্জুর করেছেন।" Despite the police request for a five-day remand to properly interrogate the primary suspect for the sake of the investigation, the court ultimately approved a two-day remand.

Meanwhile, developments continue regarding other individuals implicated in the case. Two other accused persons, namely Golam Muktadir and Alamgir Hossain, were released on bail from the Sirajganj District Jail on September 1, altering the status of suspects currently held in custody as the legal process unfolds.
