Sagor-Runi Murder Case Report Delayed Again as New Clue Emerges

The submission of the judicial investigation report into the high-profile double murder of journalists Sagor Sarwar and Meherun Runi has faced yet another delay. This latest postponement marks the 129th time that the deadline for the investigation report has been pushed back in the long-standing legal proceedings.

Judicial tracking indicates that the sensitive murder case is presently under the jurisdiction of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). Prior to being handed over to the PBI for further inquiry, the responsibility for investigating the brutal killings of Sagor Sarwar and Meherun Runi rested with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), a premier law enforcement agency in the country.

Addressing the ongoing developments outside the standard investigative channels, the Chief Prosecutor made notable remarks regarding potential breakthroughs in separate historical and current high-profile cases. Clarifying the institutional scope, the Chief Prosecutor stated that the Chief Prosecutor's office is not directly conducting the Sagor-Runi murder investigation, as that specific mandate belongs to the PBI agency.

However, the Chief Prosecutor explained that investigative agencies can occasionally stumble upon tangential clues while probing completely unrelated matters. Drawing a historical parallel, the Chief Prosecutor referenced the assassination of the late President Ziaur Rahman, noting that investigators had previously uncovered minor leads concerning Major Mozaffar during that separate process.

Elaborating on the current case, the Chief Prosecutor asserted that a specific, actionable clue regarding the murder of Sagor and Runi has indeed been identified. Due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing verification process, the Chief Prosecutor explicitly declined to reveal the specific name or detailed identity of the individual at this present juncture.
