SAARC Outgoing SG Golam Sarwar Meets State Minister Shama Obaid
Outgoing SAARC Secretary General Golam Sarwar has met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka. During the meeting, both officials discussed regional cooperation and upcoming institutional publications.
The outgoing Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Ambassador Golam Sarwar, paid a courtesy call on Shama Obaid Islam, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. The official meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs located in the capital city of Dhaka on the 17th of August.
During the formal discussions at the ministry, Ambassador Golam Sarwar provided an update on the ongoing operations and administrative standing of the regional body. He stated that the regular activities of SAARC are currently continuing uninterrupted, supported by various development partners through ongoing operational programs and collaborative initiatives.
Looking ahead toward future institutional milestones, the outgoing Secretary General shared significant projections regarding regional research and reporting. He announced the strong anticipation and expectation that the official SAARC Development Report will be successfully published and released by the end of the year 2026.
In response to the updates provided by the outgoing secretary general, State Minister Shama Obaid Islam emphasized the strategic importance of regional diplomacy for Bangladesh. She explicitly stated that Bangladesh intends to play a much more active and prominent role in strengthening overall regional cooperation among member states.
Furthermore, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs commended the outgoing official for his leadership and administrative contributions during his tenure.
