Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Transferred in Major Reshuffle
The Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud, appointing Special Branch DIG Md. Mahbubur Rashid in his place. The administrative changes come amid confirmed reports of a four-person murder in the region.

A significant leadership change has taken place within the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RPMP) following a formal directive issued by the government. Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud has been officially removed from his position as part of a wider administrative reshuffle executed by the authorities.
To fill the vacancy left by the outgoing commissioner, the Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Md. Mahbubur Rashid, who previously served as a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the Special Branch (SB) of police, as the new commissioner of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police.
The administrative reassignments were formally confirmed through a notification issued on August 25, 2026. The official government order regarding the transfers was signed by Tawsif Ahmed, who serves as the Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Alongside the high-profile replacement of the Rangpur police chief, the recent directive from the ministry details several other transfers within the national police apparatus. Specifically, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Police Commissioner Md. Aslam Uddin has been reassigned to the Police Headquarters.
Additionally, the administrative measures include the relocation of Mohammad Nurul Amin, who was serving as the Additional Superintendent of Police at the Noakhali Police Training Centre (PTC). Under the new orders, he has been transferred to the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) and Specialised Training Centre in Khagrachhari.
These law enforcement and administrative updates unfold against the backdrop of a severe security incident in Rangpur. Confirmed reports establish that retired school teacher Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel, along with his wife and child, were among four individuals killed in a violent incident in the area.
